Irene "Boots" (Shaw) Carter Edney

Irene “Boots” Carter Edney, 97, passed away at Rainey Hospice House on March 11, 2018.

Born in Anderson County on September 11, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Winnie Hawkins Meeks and James Shaw. She was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Belton as long as her health permitted. She was the oldest member of the church. She worked in textiles and retired from Blair Mill.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Rice and her husband Daniel; 3 grandchildren, Rhonda Mullis, Keith Rice and Joel Rice (Jennifer), and 5 great-grandchildren: Tyler (Elizabeth), Hannah, and Courtney Mullis, Anna and Will Rice.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Carter, and her second husband, Robert Edney; brother, Jake Meeks; also, 3 sisters, Mamie Nelson, Ada Price and Annie Laura Allen. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The funeral service to celebrate her life will be at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Belton Wednesday at 3pm officiated by Rev. Dr. Mitch Brooks and Rev. Dale Lynch. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:45pm until 2:45pm.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, 203 Holly Creek Dr., Anderson.
