Honea Path
McDavid Carr, 98, widower of Mary Tom “Tommie” Carr formerly of 131 W. Greer St., died Monday, April 30, 2018 at The Maples Assisted Living.
Born in Honea Path, SC, he was the son of the late Koy and Ellawease Stone Carr. He was the “Old Stinger”; member of the Honea Path High School Stinger Class B football team that won the 1937 State Championship and he earned the State High Jump record in the 1930’s that was not broken until 1967. He retired at the age of 72 from Chiquola/Lowenstein Textile Manufacturing Company where at one time he was a member of the Chiquola Chicks Semi-Pro textile baseball team. He was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Surviving are: daughter, Beth Smith (Jim) of Honea Path; granddaughters, Shannon Roark of Belton and Stephanie Smith of Honea Path; great grandson, Austin Roark of Belton; 3 nephews; 4 nieces; numerous great nephews and nieces and great great nephew and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Carr and his sisters, Helen Carr Meeks and Weasy Carr Hall.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to The Maples and their staff and to Hospice of the Upstate.
Graveside service will be held 11am Wednesday at Garden of Memories with Rev. Gayle Summey and Rev. Fred Treaster officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Maples Assisted Living or to Hospice of the Upstate.
The family will be at their respective homes.
