Bobby Gene Whitfield, 72, husband of Janice Burton Whitfield, resident of Austin Road, entered into rest Tuesday August 15, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born on April 9, 1951 in Belton to the late Robert Guy and Zadie Willis Whitfield, he was a graduate of BHP High School and Tri County Technical College. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, and retired from the United States Postal Service after 27 years of service.
A member of Bethany Baptist Church, he was also a member of the American Legion Honea Path Chapter.
Surviving other than his loving wife of 46 years, of the home, are his children, Melissa “Missy” Ann Whitfield of Belton, Marcy Whitfield Mullen and husband Kelley of Belton, Amanda Whitfield Whitten and husband Neal of Honea Path; his sister, Francine Harper of Belton; his grandchildren, Collin, Zadie, and Nolan Mullen and Caroline O’Kelley. He was predeceased by four brothers, R.S., Bronson, David, and Billy Joe Whitfield, and two sisters, Olene Burton and Imogene McCoy.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 PM from the Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Edmonds and Rev. David Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with Military Honors. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at Cox Funeral Home.
