Honea Path
Carl Eugene “Gene” Wolverton, Sr., 79, husband of Marilynn Peterson Wolverton, resident of Due West Rd., died Sunday January 9, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 25, 1942 in Akron OH to the late Kenneth LeRoy and Florence Marie Cochran Wolverton, he was a graduate of Atwater High School, Gene was self employed furniture repairman and a jack of all trades for many years.
He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, and the Happy Agers, he also sang in the church choir. Gene loved Cajun Music, especially playing the Cajun Accordion.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, of the home; his children, Robert Troy Wolverton of OH, Rebecca Marie Jewett and husband Tom of Honea Path, Debra Lori Gabriel of OH, Johanna Rice and significant other Jamie Black of Belton, and Marion Wolverton of Honea Path; 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He was predeceased by a son, Carl Eugene “Rabbit” Wolverton, Jr., and his sisters, Kendra Margal, Penny Lynn, and Lynda Laihr.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 PM from Mt. Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Krieger officiating.
The family is at the home and will receive friends Friday from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Robert Troy Wolverton, Blake Rice, Zhach Wolverton, Tommy Jewett, Richard Parsons, and Jamie Black. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Happy Agers.
