Belton
Hazel Bannister King Gilliam, 93, of Belton died Saturday March 6, 2021 at Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Anderson County on April 18, 1927 to the late Lon and Florence King Bannister, she attended Anderson County Schools and was a Seamstress at Belton Shirt Plant. She was twice married, first to the late Robert Lee “Bob” King for 39 years, then to the late Raymond Gilliam for 14 years.
She was a lifelong member of Dry Oak Assembly of God where she sang with the Ladies Trio, taught the younger children’s Sunday School, was a member and past president of the WM’s, worked in Vacation Bible School, and served as Sunday School Secretary. She and Raymond joined Belton Church of God in 1993, where they attended until her health would no longer allow her attend.
Surviving are her children, Marion “Hilton” King (Betty) of Belton, and Tammie Roe (Barry) of Williamston; her grandchildren, Sheri Muncaster, Claudia Roe, and Kingslee Roe; her great granddaughter, Sophia Marullo; her sisters, Hilda Driver and Sybil Bratcher. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kimberly King, her brothers, Leon Bannister, Louie Bannister, and Lamar Bannister, her sisters, Seretha Gilliam and Margaret Ashley.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 PM from the Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wendell Bannister, Rev. Jimmy Bannister, and Rev. Norman Black officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at the funeral home.
