Belton
James Leroy Philyaw, 87, husband of Sybil Vaughn Philyaw, resident of Calhoun Rd., went home to be with the Lord Tuesday April 5, 2022 at the residence of his grandson.
Born on October 18, 1934 in Belton to the late George V. and Annie Phillips Philyaw, he joined the United States Army where he proudly served for 39 years, retiring as a Sgt. Maj. He served in Law Enforcement and retired from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department.
He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Gideons International, and Hamilton Lodge #403 A.F.M.
Surviving other than his wife of the home are his sister, Judy Hartsell and husband Gene of Chattanooga TN; his grandson, Brantley Keith Creel and wife India of Belton; his great granddaughters, Bailee Chreitzberg and Jamilynn Creel; his great grandsons, James Blakeley Creel, Bruce Creel. He was predeceased by his daughter, Jami Philyaw, 2 sisters, Shirley Driver and Patricia Ann Strickland, a brother, Joe Donnie Philyaw.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. from the Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Moody officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Garden of Memories.
The family is at the home of his grandson, Brantley and India Creel, 955 O’Neal Street and will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 until the hour of service at the funeral home.
