Belton
Lamar L. Phillips, Jr., 80, husband of Rita Mae Babb Phillips, resident of Pope Dr., died Friday January 21, 2021 at Rainey Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 27, 1940 in Abbeville County to the late Lamar L. Sr., and Essie Gunnells Phillips, he was a graduate of Honea Path High School, he served in the South Carolina Army National Guard for 9 years. He retired from BASF after 32 years of service.
He was a member of Eastview Baptist Church for over 47 years, where he served as Deacon, Brotherhood Director and taught Sunday School. He was a member of Centre Lodge #37 A.FM., in Honea Path and Hejaz Shrine.
Surviving other than his loving wife of 58 years, of the home, are his children, Constance Phillips Inggs (Gregory) of Raleigh NC, Conrad “Bo” Kenneth Phillips (Michelle) of Belton, and Tracy Phillips Schwartz of Hilton Head; his grandchildren, William Hayden Schwartz, Katherine Olivia Schwartz, Landon Thomas Schwartz, Dustin Barrett Phillips, Johnny Tyler Phillips, Brandon Lamar Phillips, Sarah Katherine Yater, and Ellen Grace Yater; his sisters, Helen Bannister (Wendell), Ruth Shaw, and Judy Bannister (James); his brother, Bobby Phillips; 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1:00 PM from the Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wendell Bannister and Rev. James Bannister officiating. Private family burial will take place Monday at Eastview Cemetery in Honea Path.
Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing is required.
The family is at the home and no formal visitation will take place.
