Martha Whitfield Meeks, 88, widow of Charles C Meeks Sr., of Belton, died Sunday, August 20, 2023, at The Maples of Honea Path.
Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Albert Lee and Millie Bannister Whitfield. She began her career in Anderson County with the Solicitor’s Office, then for 40 years she worked alongside her husband as the co-owner of Top Notch, Inc. She was very committed to supporting the youth of Belton as made evident through her extensive work with the American Legion, Belton Recreation Department, and the BHP Booster Club. She also served as President of the Anderson County Junior Miss Scholarship Program. She was a member of the King’s Daughters Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Belton.
Surviving her is son, Charles “Chuck” Meeks Jr. (Jan); daughter Kimberly Shuey Barker (Kent); sisters, Becky Henry and Lynn Crittendon (John); grandchildren, Anna Lee Meeks Pruitt (Ross), Emily Michelle Meeks, Lauren Elizabeth Shuey, Charles Curtis Meeks, Catherine Eileen Shuey Kester (Ben), and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother James Edward Whitfield and sister Vivian Wright.
A graveside service will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, August 23, at the Garden of Memories with Rev. Nick Kriby officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 1 to 2pm at First Baptist Church Family Life Center.
The family will be at the home of Chuck and Jan Meeks.
