Mary Lou (Moffitt) Newman

Mary Lou Moffitt Newman of Belton, aged 91, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019. Born in Mills River, NC, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Myrtle Orr Moffitt. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Walter Lawrence Newman, a daughter, Barbara Newman Freas, a brother, William A. Moffitt and a sister Bonnie Jean Newman.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Newman Messner and husband Richard, 2 grandsons, Michael Craig Freas and Grayson Andrew Freas.

She was fortunate to have special caregivers that assisted her with daily activities.  We are thankful for the love and support of Susan Sutherland, Betty Jackson, LaDonyia Burch, Delphine Thompson, Jane Dunn, Janice Cline, Crystal Maloy and Mamie Baylor.

Mrs. Newman retired from Anderson County School District 2, where she was the secretary at Belton Middle School for 21 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Belton for 61 years, and volunteered serving Meals on Wheels in Belton, and also with Anderson Interfaith Ministries in Anderson.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at 2:00 pm, at the First Baptist Church, 105 Brown Avenue, Belton, SC 29627.  A private family graveside service will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Belton, PO Box 366, Belton, SC 29627.
