Shelby Mitchell Whitfield, 72, widow of the late William David Whitfield, Sr., died Thursday March 5, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born November 26, 1947 in Anderson County to the late Jim and Annie Ruth Johnson Mitchell, she was a machine operator for the Timken Company for over 35 years. After her retirement she was a substitute teacher for Anderson School District 2, which she loved doing as well as cutting grass.
Shelby was a faithful member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church where she was involved in Sunday School and loved singing in the choir.
Surviving are her sons, William David Whitfield, Jr., and wife Alyson and Randy Scott Whitfield all of Belton; her sisters, Judy Arflin, Betty Hamby, Cathy Bannister and husband Mike; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; her special lifelong friend, Rosita Kelly of Berlin, Germany.
Celebration of Life services will be conducted Saturday at 3PM from Mt. Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Krieger, Rev. Carroll Phelmmons, and Greg Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dean Campbell, Tracy Harper, Rocky Whitfield, Rayford Howell, Wayne Woods, and Derek Alewine.
The family is at the home of Davey Whitfield, 511 Austin Rd, and will receive friends Friday evening from 6PM to 8PM at Cox Funeral Home.
Flowers are accepted and memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.
