Thomas Sloan Russell

Thomas Sloan Russell, 46, son of Frances Mattison Russell and the late James Thomas Russell of Belton, died on Friday, June 23 in Charleston, SC. He was employed by Flood and Print of Charleston.
Tom was an outstanding junior tennis player who won the 1990 14U Doubles at the Palmetto Championships in Belton. He was a star athlete at Belton-Honea Path High School where he played tennis and basketball. He played #2 singles and #1 doubles for the Bears’ State Championship tennis team. He graduated from the College of Charleston in 1999 with a degree in psychology.
Tom loved cheering for his favorite sports team, the University of Tennessee Volunteers, listening to music and spending time with his many friends in the Charleston, Greenwood and Belton areas.
He is survived by his mother and his sister, Frances (Franny) Mattison Russell of Charleston, and Jennifer Price of Charleston. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his brother, James Mattison Russell of Greenwood, SC.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 on Friday, June 30 at the Belton Presbyterian Church, 405 Jim Russell Way. The family will be receiving friends at the home following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Belton Presbyterian Church, PO Box 601, Belton, SC 29627.
