Yvonne Jannette Strickland Nickles, 87, widow of the late Marion “Nick” Cornelius Nickles, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 in Greenville.
She was born on November 12, 1936 in Belton to the late James Pickens Strickland and Ruth Elizabeth Malone Strickland. She graduated from Belton High School in 1954 and went on to succeed in various careers including as a cashier for Wilson’s 5 and Dime, a bookkeeper for Cox Furniture Company, an Avon Lady, and a Field Creations Beauty Consultant, being awarded a tour of Spain in 1976 for her goals in sales. She was the principal’s secretary at Crescent High School in Iva during the 1980’s. Afterwards she led administration and finance in the company that she encouraged her husband to found. She married Marion Cornelius Nickles on November 10, 1956 and together they had 3 children.
A member of the Silent Generation, she was everything but. Yvonne was known for being engaging, talkative, and outgoing, and was loved by many for her sense of humor. She particularly enjoyed traveling the world and experiencing diverse cultures. She will be remembered most for her charity to those in need and her whole-hearted faith.
Surviving are her sons, Marion (Pamela) Nickles Jr of Belton, Dr. Daniel (Crystal) Nickles of Greenville, and Dr. David (Seiko) Nickles of Honolulu HI; her grandchildren, William, Adam, Delayne, Daniel- Adam, James, and Chloe Nickles.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM from the Belton Cemetery with Rev. Calvin Murry and Dr. David Nickles officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
